Morning Muse

They tell you that first year teachers are sick all the time, but this is ridiculous. I woke up with a lot of congestion and sneezing. I would say the only time I have been completely healthy since starting to teach was the week I was home in Texas.

I can fight illness or I can fight the achievement gap, but I'm pretty sure that I can't do both at the same time.

What's a would be teacher to do?

I feel fairly confident that you can, but that's neither here nor there. Fight illness. You've already been really, really sick in the past 12 months, and I have a hard time thinking of any reason why you should do it again. In hard times you live by the triage principle: worst problem first. You always fight illness first. Otherwise you'll make it to anything else on the list.

Don't let the last few weeks of winter get you down. Spring is just around the corner, and for what it's worth, in a few weeks, I will be too. I'll take the train in some time, buy you dinner or something, and we'll pretend for an evening that our lives are exactly how we always wanted them to be.

I find sometimes that just knowing I can still imagine how I want my life to be gives me the strength to keep trying to make it that way.

If that makes any sense.
